“Great Leaders carry their followers along in decision making”-Godday Odidi

On 26th November, 2019, exactly 11.00am, I arrived at the palatial office of the President-General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju to do a brief interview with him. While waiting for my digital photographer to come at the reception, the PG called me to see him immediately.

Seeing his well-furnished office with the galaxy of his team and how he humbly introduced me to other maritime experts in his office was a great honour I cannot forget in hurry in my life.

This grace of honour came from High Chief Michael Orobosa Ubogu who has made good legacies in the maritime industry for the past 12 years and his philanthropic gestures speaks well of him.

While granting interview with Comrade Adewale Adeyanju,I saw greatness tucked in him matched with humility and kindness.

I remembered vividly when Chief Ubogu told me that Comrade Adeyanju is one of his trusted mentors that has affected his business life over the years.

When it comes to exemplary leadership style in the maritime sector, Comrade Adeyanju has fully demonstrated his leadership capacity by carrying everybody along in decision making and how to continue to bring quality leadership system into the union.

According to him, we are diversifying our ideas into businesses to make our members productive in their professions. We have set up loans for members to use in establishing themselves in small businesses.

He is a maritime player who knows how maritime business is run effectively and creatively in Africa. He has greatly affected lives through his silent philanthropic legacies. Born by a military father and grew up in a decent home where his mother tutored him on love for the poor. He is a man of the people that wants other young maritime entrepreneurs to excel in life.
