The news making House of Representatives member representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun federal constituency and Chairman Diaspora committee,Hon.Rita Orji, freshly bagged three humanitarian awards, visited St.Mary Catholic and Fadasadiku schools and Silver street at Olodi-Apapa,Lagos.
According to Hon.Orji, said I never negotiated for any award to be recognized but my various grassroots humanitarian services in my constituency for the past two years is speaking for me. For Lifeline International Rescue Chaplain, Gospel Alive Media and Ajeromi-Ifelodun Movement to recognize me at this same day, shows that the people are gradually feeling my two years as a federal legislator. These awards will continue to spur me to do more for my people. Politics is to help humanity not breeding thugs or building hotels for sinful act in Ajegunle. It is Ajegunle people that voted for me with their voters’ cards not political party. I represent everybody in Ajegunle.I want to use this medium to thank these award organizers for considering me worthy for recognition and God will continue to lift them up in all their endeavors.
Orji also responded to an SOS sent to her by Parent Teachers Association of St.Mary Catholic and Fadasadiku schools at Abukuru Street, Ajegunle on the deplorable state of the two schools in one complex. It is sad that two schools in one complex can be neglected by government over the years. I cannot allow my children to attend such schools in an offensive condition. How will pupils concentrate in their academic studies in such a pitiable condition? When I received the SOS from Abuja, I was worried and felt my representation must affect everybody in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and that is why I visited these schools to see things for myself.
You can see that teachers themselves are enduring the pitiable condition too. I’m not here to sing my praises but to renovate the schools for conducive learning. How can two schools merge in a germ-infested condition and you expect to produce the best pupils? The renovation works will commence immediately schools are in session.
Orji also used the opportunity to award the best performing pupils of the term with school bags and shared indomie noodles to them. I will continue to encourage qualitative education in my constituency, she said.
One of the parents, Mr.James Mathias commended the visit of Hon.Orji for responding to their SOS on the deplorable state of St.Mary Catholic School. We had made several efforts as parents to reach those in charge of education in Lagos State to come to our aid but no avail. It is God that brought Hon.Orji for us and we pray that the renovation works on the two schools will be executed successfully, he enthused.
She also visited Silver Street at Olodi-Apapa with her team where persistent flooding has sacked many homes with no option than landlords selling-off their houses. This road project ought to be reconstructed by the local government but I will do my best possible to put the road in good shape, she added.
One of the house owners in Silver Street, who does not want his name on the print that has dual citizenship, said government, has forgotten us over the years. We had many a time complained to the local government but nothing was done until Hon. Orji came to our rescue now. The perennial flooding is caused by inability of the water to flow through the drainage system and most buildings adjacent to the street have blocked the drainage system and the only option now for the government to demolish some of the buildings erected along the water channels. The palliative measure of Hon. Orji will bring hope to Silver street dwellers, he said.
